BEACHES

The local beaches are found by turning left onto Summerlin and follow the signs - straight on for Bunche Beach, Sanibel and Captiva, or turn left onto Pine Ridge or San Carlos Boulevard for Fort Myers and other beaches.

Bunche Beach, located on John Morris off Summerlin near Tanger. Quiet beach used by locals, free parking (on beach), no facilities, good for bird watching, easy access to watch the sunsets.

Fort Myers Beach, located as you cross the bridge onto Estero Island. This is the busiest part of the island with the fishing pier, bars / cafes / beach shops, and water sports. Metered parking and restrooms.

Bowditch Beach, located at the top end of Estero Island - turn right as you get to Fort Myers Beach. Again metered parking with small nature reserve, picnic area, and restrooms.

Mid-island Beach, located all down Estero Island, many access points every 200/300 yards. Metered parking for 6-10 cars at each point. Tends to be quieter the farther down the island you travel. No restrooms.

Sanibel & Captiva Islands, many quiet beaches, well known for shelling. Most now have metered parking, free parking on the causeway beaches to Sanibel. $6 toll to cross the bridge to the islands.

Lovers Key State Recreation Area, located over the bridge at the bottom end of Estero Island. Remote beaches, picnic areas, refreshment booths and restrooms, shuttle from main car park area to beaches. Also contains nature reserve and trail . Entrance fee to the state park (~$5).

These are just a few of the many beaches found in south west Florida.
